Description

The wines of Barone di Villagrande have been in production on Mount Etna since 1727 and the family have seen 10 generations of winemakers of these unique wines. The estate has the longest standing history in the area and the oldest vines still producing grapes today.

The vineyards are 2 hectares based on the Eastern slope, 200 metres above sea level where they receive sun from sunrise to sunset.

Temperatures and rainfall are affected by the volcanic activity and altitude of the vineyards. In Autumn and Winter they receive 10 times more rain than in the rest of Sicily. In the Summer, temperatures are never as high as the rest of Sicily and rain and humidity are almost absent. These conditions do wonders for the wines; concentrating sugars and natural flavours and lowering alcohol compared to the average Sicilian wines.
